Recommended Tools
- Felt-edge or hard application squeegee
- Surface slip solution in a clean spray bottle
- Vinyl-safe surface-preparation cleaner
- Clean microfiber towels
- Heat gun or hair dryer
- Precision blade if minor trimming is required
Step 1: Prepare the Headlights
Thoroughly clean each headlight lens to remove dirt, dust, wax, ceramic products and other surface contaminants. For the best results, use a clay bar when necessary and complete the final cleaning step with a vinyl-safe surface-preparation solution.
Step 2: Check the Installation Conditions
Complete the installation in a clean, shaded and temperature-controlled environment. Never install the film in direct sunlight or on a hot, cold or wet headlight. For the best results, we recommend an installation temperature between 65°F and 80°F.
Step 3: Prepare the Slip Solution
Use a vinyl-safe surface slip solution. If a professional solution is unavailable, a basic mixture can be made using approximately 16 ounces of clean water and one small drop of mild dish soap. Too much soap can reduce initial adhesion and make the installation more difficult.
Step 4: Position the Overlay
Lightly spray the headlight and the adhesive side of the overlay with slip solution. Position the film over the corresponding headlight and carefully align its shape with the edges of the intended coverage area.
Step 5: Squeegee the Film
Once the film is properly positioned, hold it in place and begin squeegeeing from the center toward the outer edges. Use controlled, overlapping strokes to remove the slip solution and air trapped beneath the overlay.
Step 6: Conform and Finish the Edges
Use gentle heat when necessary to help the film conform around curves, corners and more complex areas. Avoid overheating or overstretching the material. Press the perimeter firmly to ensure the edges are properly secured.
Step 7: Inspect and Allow to Cure
Inspect the completed installation for remaining moisture, air pockets or loose edges. Allow the vehicle to remain in a warm, dry environment while the remaining moisture evaporates. Avoid washing the vehicle or exposing the overlays to unnecessary moisture for at least 24 hours.
Trimming & Installation Notice Some overlays may be intentionally designed with a small amount of extra material to make positioning easier. Minor trimming may be required. Always use extreme care around the headlight lens and surrounding painted surfaces. Professional installation is recommended if you are uncomfortable using a blade or heat source.
