How to Install Headlight PPF

Your kit arrives precision-cut for the vehicle selected when ordering. The exact shape and installation technique can vary by headlight, but the basic process remains similar.

1

Clean the Headlight

Thoroughly wash and clean the headlight lens and surrounding area. Remove dirt, wax, grease and contaminants before applying the film.

2

Prep the Surface

Use your surface prep solution and a clean microfiber towel to create a clean installation surface before introducing slip solution.

3

Apply Slip Solution

Spray slip solution onto the headlight and the adhesive side of the PPF so the pre-cut piece can be positioned correctly.

4

Position the Pre-Cut Film

Align the PPF with the shape of the headlight. Use the pre-cut pattern and surrounding edges as your positioning reference.

5

Anchor & Squeegee

Establish an anchor point and begin pushing the installation solution from underneath the film using your PPF squeegee.

6

Finish the Edges

Work the remaining moisture and air toward the outside edges. Check the perimeter and make sure the film is properly seated.

Before You Start

Proper preparation is one of the most important parts of a successful headlight PPF installation. Set up your work area before removing the protective film from its backing liner.

Clean Environment Install indoors or in a clean area away from excessive dust, wind and direct contamination.
Cool Surface Avoid installing on an extremely hot headlight or immediately after prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
Clean Hands Wash your hands before handling the adhesive side of the PPF to help reduce contamination.
Verify Fitment Confirm that the kit matches the vehicle, year, model and trim selected when the order was placed.

Headlight PPF Installation Tips

Take your time during positioning and work the film gradually. Pre-cut PPF is designed to simplify installation, but patience still makes a significant difference in the final result.

Use Plenty of Slip Solution During Positioning The film should be able to move while you align the pre-cut pattern with the shape of the headlight.
Establish Your Anchor Before Working Outward Once the film is correctly positioned, secure an appropriate anchor area before progressively squeegeeing the remaining surface.
Work Solution Toward the Edges Use smooth, overlapping squeegee passes to move moisture and air outward rather than trapping it beneath the PPF.
Give the Film Time to Set Small amounts of installation moisture may take time to fully evaporate after installation. Avoid unnecessarily disturbing the edges while the film is settling.

Important Installation Note

Headlight shapes, curves and installation difficulty vary from vehicle to vehicle. Always verify the correct pre-cut pattern before installation. Some highly curved or complex headlights may require additional patience and installation technique compared with flatter headlight designs.

Headlight PPF Installation FAQ

Is the headlight PPF already pre-cut?

Yes. Premium Auto Styling pre-cut headlight PPF kits are cut for the vehicle fitment selected when ordering, eliminating the need to start with a large bulk sheet of PPF.

Does the kit include PPF for both headlights?

The headlight PPF kit is designed to provide protection for the vehicle's corresponding headlight set. Always review the individual product description and selected vehicle fitment before ordering.

Can I install pre-cut headlight PPF myself?

Pre-cut headlight PPF is designed to make DIY installation easier by eliminating much of the bulk cutting and pattern work. Installation difficulty still varies depending on the shape and curvature of the headlight.

What is slip solution used for?

Slip solution temporarily reduces the film's initial grip, allowing you to move and position the pre-cut PPF before securing it to the headlight.

What is tack solution used for?

Tack solution is used when additional initial adhesion is needed to help establish anchor points or secure certain areas of the film during installation.

Do I need special installation tools?

A proper PPF squeegee, surface prep supplies, slip solution and tack solution are strongly recommended. Premium Auto Styling offers an optional installation kit with the headlight PPF product.

Will small moisture spots disappear after installation?

Some residual installation moisture can take time to evaporate after a wet PPF installation. The exact drying time depends on temperature, humidity and the installation.
