Tail Light Deck Vinyl Overlay with Reflector Cut Out - Gloss Black | 2018-2022 Subaru Crosstrek
2018-2022 Subaru Crosstrek - Tail Light Deck Vinyl Overlay with Reflector Cut Out
The tail light deck overlay makes a huge difference in the overall appearance of the OEM tail lights. Pre-Cut in 3 separate pieces per side to make the install process easier than any other tail light deck. This overlay is simple in design and leaves a cut out for the side reflector giving you a true OEM+ look while still making the rear end more aggressive. Unlike most ebay or amazon vendors, Premium Auto Styling vinyl overlays are designed and produced here in the USA in our own facility. We design and test fit all products to ensure fitment guaranteeing you the best results . Basically, if they don’t work on our cars, they’re not going to end up on yours. If you are looking for an inexpensive styling modification, or you just want to change up the factory look without having to deal with opening up your tail light for internal modification, this is definitely the easiest route.
INSTALL GUIDE
TOOLS REQUIRED: PRO FELT SQUEEGEE, HEAT GUN or Warm Sunny Day to Post Heat the product
PART 1 - DRY INSTALL BASICS: Getting the vinyl installed on your vehicle is very easy and only requires minimal tools. For Best results we recommend cleaning the surface that you'll be applying our overlays too, cleaning should consist of removal of any waxes, dirt and or debris. For the cleaning process a clay bar is highly recommended: CLEANING PREP SPRAY & CLAY BAR's SOLD HERE). Before you begin installation of any vinyl overlays please make sure you are working in the right conditions, you should never install vinyl in direct sunlight, never apply vinyl in temperatures that are neither too hot nor too cold. Our in-house expert installers say the optimum temperature for installing vinyl is between 65 and 72 degrees (F). Vinyl can be installed in temperatures as low as 65 degrees (F), and up to 90 degrees (F). Vinyl has a more difficult time conforming and staying in place in colder temperatures though, which is why we recommend waiting until temperatures warm up or install in a temperature controlled environment.
PART 2: Once you have completed part one - dry install basics, you can move onto this step. Start by identifying the separate pieces of the kit. You should have 6 pieces total, 2 side pieces of the tail light that includes the area with the reflector cut out. 2 upper portions that follow the top side of the outer tail light, and 2 upper smaller pieces for the top of the smaller portion of the tail light that is above the reverse light.
Start with the side piece. Line this piece up to the outer corner of the tail light that faces the front of the vehicle. Do not press this part down all the way as it may need to move slightly in order to get your placement lined up just right for bottom of the overlay. The bottom side of your overlay that follows the outer edge of the tail light should be placed about 1 millimeter over the edge so it can be tucked around the edge giving you the best finished look.
NOTE: Be sure not to place to low, otherwise there will be a gap between the side piece and the top piece. The Side and top pieces were designed to overlap by about a 1/4 of an inch.
Once you are happy with the side piece's placement you can begin using a squeegee, apply firm pressure to the entire product starting in the middle then moving outwards. Continue until you have removed all air from underneath the vinyl. Now that the overlay is fully installed you can remove the transfer tape, start in one corner and pull the transfer tape back onto itself. Do not pull the transfer tape away from the vinyl, pull it downwards. This will result in less likelihood of the vinyl staying on the transfer tape. If a piece of the vinyl does not come off of the transfer tape, STOP pulling immediately, set the transfer tape back into place, squeegee that area again and then continue until it is fully removed. Tuck or Trim any excess you have around the edges you may have depending on your placement.
Continue the install by now doing the larger Top Side Piece. Again, starting from the outer corner of the tail light that faces the front of the vehicle, place the vinyl by following along the outer edge and matching up with your lower piece. You will want to tuck any excess vinyl you may have on the outer edge after you have confirmed the entire placement of the piece. Using the same squeegee method, finish installation of this piece.
Lastly, The Smaller Top Side Inner Tail Light Piece. This piece you will want to start on the edge that faces the outer tail light. Lay this piece into place along the outer edge of the top of the tail light until you reach the end. Your placement should make it so you have no excess on the inner corner that the overlay ends at. Tuck any excess you have on the edge where you started. Squeegee the material down and then all that is left to do is use a heat gun to post heat the material, or leave the vinyl in the warm sun for a couple of hours to set completely.
