2015-2021 Subaru WRX / STI - Tail Light Smoke Out + Insert With Custom Cut Out Overlays
By popular demand, we are releasing a Smoke Tint Tail Light Deck Version of our original Black Out Overlay with custom cut out. We know some of you did not want to fully black out the side of the tail light so this is made specifically for you. We did not release this version right away because the install process for tint is slightly different than vinyl and we wanted to make sure anyone who purchases this product is aware that this is a WET INSTALL, not a dry install like the Gloss Black Vinyl was. Make sure to follow the install guide below carefully. This Custom Vinyl overlay drastically changes the entire look of your stock tail light for a fraction of the cost of retro-fitting or aftermarket tails. There are a lot of options out there for the WRX and STI platform but we set out to create something different to give people another look, that they themselves could install on their vehicle. Along with a full install guide and video on our youtube channel to walk you through the process we are confident in our 3 out of 5 difficulty rating for this product meaning most DIY'ers can install this product but you do need patience. Premium Auto Styling vinyl overlays are computer precision cut into durable automotive grade vinyl. This easy peal and stick vinyl accent overlay looks OEM when properly installed. Unlike most ebay or amazon vendors, Premium Auto Styling vinyl overlays are designed and produced here in the USA in our own facility. We design and test fit all products to ensure fitment guaranteeing you the best results . Basically, if they don’t work on our cars, they’re not going to end up on yours. If you are looking for an inexpensive styling modification, or you just want to change up the factory look, it's a great idea to checkout this vinyl overlay. Check your local laws and regulations prior to purchasing. Disclaimer information attached below.

INSTALLATION: Getting the vinyl installed on your ride is very easy and only requires minimal tools. First you need: lubrication spray solution. You can make a lubrication spray solution at home by using a spray bottle filled with water and mixing it with 1 drop of dish soap or buy our PRE-MIX SOLUTION SOLD HERE, You'll also need an application squeegee. For Best results we recommend cleaning the surface that you'll be applying our overlays too, cleaning should consist of removal of any waxes, dirt and or debris. For the cleaning process a clay bar is highly recommended: CLEANING PREP SPRAY & CLAY BAR's SOLD HERE). Before you begin installation of any vinyl overlays please make sure you are working in the right conditions, you should never install vinyl in direct sunlight, never apply vinyl in temperatures that are neither too hot nor too cold. Our in-house expert installers say the optimum temperature for installing vinyl is between 65 and 72 degrees (F). Vinyl can be installed as low as 50 degrees (F), and up to 90 degrees (F).
After the surface is clean and you have read and completed the preparation process, only then can you continue on with the next step. Next, lightly spray the surface you will be applying the overlay too, then peel the overlay from the backing paper, spray the adhesive side of the material. Starting with the face of the tail light, place the front facing portion of the overlay(the part that has a cut out for your lights). You will notice there is excess on the outer edges, focus on the edge that outlines the part of the tail light that illuminates. While aligning this portion of the overlay be careful not to stretch or warp the lines, the product has been pre-cut to perfectly form around the light by simply laying it onto the light. Once alignment has been confirmed, use a squeegee to lay this portion of the overlay that covers the face of the tail light, stop before you get to the side of the tail light. When using the squeegee, be sure to use firm pressure in order to remove the water from underneath the tint. If you do not use enough pressure you will leave behind pockets of air and water.
Now you will focus on the side of the tail light. This is where it is helpful to have a second set of hands to help you. While holding the side portion of the overlay away from the tail light, briefly heat the area with a heat gun until it is pliable. Heating the material should not last longer than 5 seconds. Make sure to heat the entirety of the tint not just one spot. Be careful not to over heat the vinyl. If you over heat the material you risk burning or over stretching it during the next step. After briefly heating the material, grab the far edge of the vinyl and give it a slight pull and stretch as you lay it onto the side of the tail light. This is known as glassing. Hand placement and pull direction is key here, make sure to look at the pictures above. Your objective is to lay the material with the least amount of wrinkles as possible. Just enough heat and just enough pull is what will make this portion do-able.
You now have the side of the tail light glassed, start by squeegeeing the middle horizontal recess in the side of the tail light again make sure to use firm pressure. Using a 45° approach angle with the squeegee, start from the front facing side, apply pressure with the squeegee and push the air out towards the front of the vehicle.
Now squeegee the rest of the material that is on the side of the tail light, always moving from the center outward towards the edges of the tail light, apply heat when needed.
Once you reach the indent along the outer edge of the tail light, lift the edge of your vinyl up to that point, and feed the vinyl into the indent, then proceed to squeegee the remaining edge of the tail light.
Using a new sharp blade, trim the excess material around the tail light. We recommend only cutting in the negative space between the tail light and the body of the vehicle. This insures a clean finish.
Use a squeegee to tuck along the edges of the tail light. Now that the hard part is done, all that's left is the easy part.
With the transfer tape attached, take your tail light insert and line up the overlay with the tail light's outer edge that faces towards the trunk. Once aligned the rest of the overlay will fall into place. Squeegee the material down. Remove the transfer tape. Post heat the product, and the installation is complete.
